Ronas Hill

Grid Reference:

Weather:
Very cold, but bright with a lot of sunshine. Just the odd flurry of snow falling. There was plenty of snow above the height of Collafirth, almost enough to have skiied on, except for the rocks sticking through. With the wind at the top, conditions were fairly harsh, getting chilled right down after just five minutes to eat a snack and enjoy the view.
Spot Height:
450m

Driving up Collafirth to start the walk was difficult, the car just managed to clear the steepest part of the road due to a couple of inches of snow lying.
There was lots of snow at the car park and lots of sunshine so we were glad of our snow goggles in the glare. It took around an hour to get to the top of Ronas and 45 minutes to get back to Collafirth. Bitterly cold at the top with spindrift swirling around to about 3 metres high. The chambered cairn at the summit is large enough to crawl inside and there is a visitors book in the nearby rectangular stone structure. We left the summit in time to reach the car just at dusk.
